GAME DAY TALK

It is Rivalry Week, part 1. Michigan vs. Ohio State highlights this week's rivalries. We also have games that will decide or clear up the races for conference titles. Oregon vs. Arizona and Stanford vs. Cal can go a long ways to decide who represents the Pac-10 in the Rose Bowl. Nebraska vs. Kansas State is for the Big 12 North Division title. What other games do you have your eye on?

  1. Not too many surprises today. Ohio State beat Michigan. At least it was a little more competitive this year.

We have something to compare TCU to Texas now: a common opponent. TCU beat Wyoming 45-10 (TCU led 24-10 at the half), Texas won 41-10 (Texas led 13-10 at the half). Why won't anyone besides me be courageous enough to put TCU in the same category as Texas?

  2. My vote for most inconsistent team: Oklahoma. The Sooners are now 6-5. When they win they win big, but they have only won about half of their games.

  3. What was the deal with the "trying to deceive" call against BYU? From what I have gathered, the referee blew the call. There is a rule that talks about faking a substitution, but Max Hall was walking towards the Air Force sideline. Also, there was memo sent to the MWC referees emphasizing the fake substitution. However, the BYU coaches did not receive any such memo. Even accounting for the memo. I feel that Max wasn't faking a subtitution and it was a legitamite play.

  4. I don't understand the whole trying to deceive idea, because that is a part of every down. Fake hand offs, juke moves, routes run by receivers, snap counts, audibles. I think the biggest problem is that it was executed too well. Some refs see things and they happen so nicely they think something had to be wrong.

  5. How about the upsets?
    LSU lost to Ole Miss.
    Stanford lost to Cal.
Arizona and Oregon are just starting overtime.

  6. I saw the Ole Miss upset coming, Cal suprised. Looks like Oregon and Arizona turned into a shoot out. Sad that I missed it.

  7. Ole Miss I was happy to see. LSU is so overrated. That has been obvious all year, yet they stayed in the top 10. They should fall far now.

I'll put them up their with Texas, (and Florida and Alabama for that matter). In fact, I would love to see TCU get a shot at Texas for their BCS bowl game. Unfortunatly that probably wont happen. Best case senario for TCU is getting shot at either Florida or Alabama (which ever one loses in the SEC title game), but after last year the BCS might be to scared to let a MWC team play such a highly ranked BCS foe. They will probably sick them against some punk BCS team that really doesn't deserve to be playing in such a big bowl game.

  9. Hey Scott, you might want to check out the ESPNU Fans Rankings. They have TCU at #1 and Texas is at #4 (behind Georgia Tech and Cincinnati) and Alabama at #6 and Florida is way down at #10 (With BYU right behind them at #11).

Though the computers and experts aren't seeming to get it, it would seem that the fans finally do. They think TCU is for real and that the "big three" are overrated.
